The high water content of cucumbers helps to hydrate our cells, while the lemon acts as a diuretic furthering the cleansing and detoxifying process.  The pear and kale add fiber and bulk to keep you full and curb unhealthy cravings.

This smoothie is so refreshing and rejuvenating, it’s a great way to start your day off in a healthy way!

Slim Down Smoothie

1 pear

2 cups kale

1/2 cucumber

1/2 lemon, juiced

1/2 cup frozen pineapple

1 cup coconut water

~Blend and Enjoy!~

A high powered blender such as a vitamix works best for this smoothie.

I knew my morning would be hectic so I prepared the ingredients the night before and stored it in a mason jar!  I just added it to the vitamix with the frozen fruit and coconut water and I was good to go!

why lemon water?

Fresh squeezed lemon juice into a cup of warm water…sounds simple enough, right?  It’s one of the best ways to start your day!

i feel refreshed just looking at it!

Water with lemon is super hydrating, detoxifying and neutralizing!  After “fasting” while you sleep, lemon water cleanses the body of toxins that your body worked so hard to get rid of during the night.  And, it provides you with a clean burst of energy…so long coffee!

If you’re chronically bloated or constipated, lemon water might just be your solution!  It provides natural enzymes that aid in digestion and elimination.  Lemon also has high levels of vitamin C, which boost immunity and antioxidants that have been proven to reduce swelling in the cells (no more puffy face!).

Use a half or a whole lemon and squeeze it into 16-32 ounces of room temperature water.  The water should have a “cloudy” appearance to it.  And, PLEASE don’t use the lemon juice from those little plastic lemon bottles found at the supermarket!  They usually contain preservatives…go for the fresh stuff!

Give your body a flush of hydrating lemon water today!  You’ll feel great!

green lemonade

Yesterday we spent all day traveling.  From sitting in traffic on the way to the airport, rushing to make our flight and then jumping on the bus back to the cape. Once we got home I was exhausted from lugging around the suitcases, car seat, stroller, toys and Noah all day long.   Traveling with a 14 month old is a workout!  We didn’t have time for meals and fell victim to noshing on airplane snacks instead.  This left my body feeling drained and depleted.  I went to bed dreaming of this rehydrating concoction and couldn’t wait to wake up in the morning to make it.

Celery juice is great for hydration due to its high level of electrolytes.  Think Gatorade minus the yucky stuff like lighter fluid!  The cucumber provides an anti-inflammatory effect on the body and the lemon helps draw out all the built up toxins.  I threw an apple in the mix sweeten it up a bit.  Oh yeah, and the kale…can’t forget the kale :)

4 ribs of celery

½ cucumber

1 apple

1 lemon

2 cups kale

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

The long day traveling was worth it because we got to visit Auntie Ann!
